Ever since I stopped wearing any sort of creams and lotions, my go-to moisturizer has been Jojoba oil. While I was going through topical steroid withdrawal (TSW), I was also worried my skin became addicted to moisturizers. I have tried almost every single over the counter moisturizer out there not knowing how much chemicals were loaded into them. I’ve tried products such as Aveeno, Eucerin, Cerave, Cetaphil, Vaseline, Keri Lotion, Nivea and the list goes on.
Without any success from products at my local pharmacy, I knew I had to look somewhere else. After scouring the internet for alternatives, coconut oil came up frequently. For me personally, anytime I applied coconut oil, I would itch for about 15 minutes before I calmed down. Coconut oil also has a distinct smell to it.
Jojoba oil to the rescue! This oil has many health benefits for all skin types, not only for eczema! Jojoba oil is actually a liquid plant wax. This liquid comes from the seed of the jojoba plant. This shrub is native to Southern Arizona, Southern California, and Northwestern Mexico.
It is commonly used to treat eczema, psoriasis, acne, sunburn, chapped skin and more. Since jojoba is a natural emollient, it soothes all skin types and unclogs hair follicles. Jojoba oil is also a carrier oil for essential oils but is also an excellent skin moisturizer. Jojoba oil can be purchased from your local health food store or even online. I have been using the Desert Essence Jojoba Oil for more than a year and can personally recommend it.
I personally recommend Jojoba oil especially if you are going through TSW because jojoba oil plays the role of serum. It moisturizes your skin and hair when your body stops doing it naturally. This is what exactly happens when your skin relies on steroid and hydrocortisone based creams, lotions and creams.

- Skin moisturizer: can be applied to your face, neck, hands, and body
- Hair moisturizer, Controls hair loss and for dry/frizzy hair: pour a few drops into your hand and apply it to your hair and scalp
- Remove wrinkles: apply it to any wrinkled areas and massage it into your skin in a circular motion
- Makeup removal: add a few drops to a cotton ball and wipe off your makeup
- Lip balm: apply a few drops to your lips whenever it is dry
- Promotes skin health: works as a protectant and cleanser. This oil is rich in iodine, which fights harmful bacteria that lead to breakouts
- Has antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties
- Reduces symptoms of inflammation
- Decrease the formation of wounds and speeds the healing process: because it contains vitamin B complex, jojoba oil may help speed up your wound and cuts faster
- Non-greasy: this is a lightweight oil that is easily absorbed into your skin
