Have you always felt like your eczema was holding you back from living your life to the fullest?

I used to believe this wholeheartedly.

Even before going through topical steroid withdrawal.

But even after healing to a certain extent, I still had this self-limiting belief that my skin was holding me back.

I tried hard not to give that thought any space.

But anytime my skin got in the way of my health, career, relationships, vacations, goals, and life, it was hard not to.

“What if I didn’t have eczema? Life would be so much easier.”

All my life, I asked myself, “What do I need to do to get rid of eczema?”

This has led me to visiting multiple doctors, healthcare practitioners, trying multiple medications, creams, topical steroid withdrawal, trying almost every single type of diet out there, taking supplements left and right and the list goes on…

Yet, I had to learn and change my thought process.

These days, I ask myself, “What do I need to do differently if my eczema never goes away?”

This was a scary question to ask myself because I had tunnel vision around healing my eczema.

I naively believed that if I could heal my eczema, it would solve all my problems and I could achieve my goals.

You might be on the same mission because of the constant pain.

Everything you do or think is about fixing or getting rid of your eczema.

Your dream is to live an eczema-free life. It’s tiring to deal with the constant itch that runs throughout the day.

Getting a solid night’s sleep without itching or scratching yourself is to die for.

Waking up with healthy-looking skin and not dealing with negative thoughts seems far-fetched.

Only if I didn’t have eczema I wouldn’t be so shy, awkward, and introverted.

Only if I didn’t have eczema I would be able to take on more responsibilities in my career.

Only if I didn’t have eczema I would be able to eat what I want and not worry about a trigger.

Only if I didn’t have eczema…

Dream Bigger

But you don’t have to think this way.

You can change the way you think.

You’ve been operating in such a way for so long that you don’t know how to operate any other way.

So you need to ask yourself, how is my eczema actually holding me back from achieving my goals and dreams?

We can agree that it definitely makes it harder.

But it’s actually not stopping you.

It may take you longer because of the daily flare-ups, the long nights, and the groggy mornings.

The growth will make you feel uncomfortable but the happiness lies on the other side of uncomfortable.

Why can’t you be an outgoing person with eczema? Why can’t you take your career to the next level with eczema? Why can’t you achieve your goals while living with a chronic skin condition?

It doesn’t have to be one or the other.

You can take care of yourself while working on your goals and dreams.

It takes a little bit of practice to find the right balance between both.

Sometimes you’ll need to put your aspirations on pause until you feel like yourself again. But you can always pick up right where you left off.

When it’s all said and done, and you look back on your life, I know you’d wish that you didn’t let your eczema hold you back.

So go on that trip you’ve been planning in your head, apply for that promotion or act on that business idea.

Stop using your eczema as an excuse like I did for most of my life.
