  • Spring cleaning! Tossing these bad boys out the window! - Hope everyone is doing well and progressing in their journey to healing their eczema. Apologies for not posting frequently but will be working towards providing more content. - Just wanted to motivate anyone who is struggling with eczema or hit a plateau in their healing process. It takes time and experimentation, so be patient. - For the last 20 years of my life, my daily routine to keep my eczema under control was loaded with prescription medications. I started at the age of 7 and at one point or another I took almost all of these throughout the day. Life should not be lived this way, especially for a kid. Hydroval/Protopic for the face Betaderm for the body - Prescription Reactine for allergies (almost daily) - Steroid nasal spray for sinus allergies - Orange puffer for asthma - Blue puffer for asthma emergencies - Atarax for sleeping at night because of the intense itching (this was almost taken everyday or I took antihistamines) - At the time it didn't seem like it a big deal. These medications were so ingrained into my daily life, I didn't know life without it. I do have to give it credit for getting me through life but it cannot be relied on for the rest of your life. - After going through multiple alternative treatments for eczema and TSW, it's safe to say that I haven't used any of the medications listed above for a few years now, even my puffers!   • What it feels like to stress about eczema... - Yes, just having eczema itself can stress you out. It’s on your mind 24/7. - Sometimes you space out mid-convo and think about your eczema. - The minute someone’s eyes shift to your eczema, you start to wonder what they think about it? What they think about you? Are they going to comment on it? Are you going to give me advice or do you really understand eczema? Maybe you have eczema and we can relate to each other? - After that happens, you then stress about eczema a bit more because someone noticed it. - You then think to yourself, “I thought my eczema looked fine today? Is it more red than usual? Is my skin dry and visible with flakes? I think it’s time to look in the mirror and re-apply some moisturizer so no one notices my eczema.” - There are times where I stressed about not having any moisturizer around me so I could fix the visible areas. - Being in this situation multiple times, I started stressing about always having some sort of moisturizer before I left the house so I wouldn’t stress in case my skin got dry in the middle of the day. - But what happened when I forgot to pack moisturizer?! I stressed out even more. There were multiple times throughout my life where I would go out of my way just to buy some in case my skin got dry so I could avoid social situations about my eczema. - Do I still stress about eczema? Hell yeah! But it’s a lot less than before. Partly because my eczema has gotten better through my diet. - I stress less about it because I can’t control 100% of my eczema. I stress about what I can control which is diet, skin maintenance and just being mindful and present (which takes a lot of practice). - Now when someone notices my eczema or asks about it, I’m less defensive, I don’t get offended or upset. - I use this opportunity to explain what eczema is and what I’m doing to improve it. - Most of the times, this conversation becomes a segway into healthy living. Some times, the person has had eczema before or knows someone who has eczema. - Another reason I stress less now is that I’ve started to not care what other people other people think of my skin. - Full post at EverythingEczema.ca

  • What do I mean by that? - When the next several months are meant to be rocky, you need to create some sort of certainty within yourself and your surrounding environment. - When going through topical steroid withdrawal myself, I knew the next 6 to 12 months was going to be brutal. The symptom length would vary person to person. The symptoms itself are extremely uncomfortable and debilitating, mentally and physically. - I didn’t know how long these symptoms would last and if it would get worse or not. - Sometimes, I would have good days and bad days. But I could never predict them. - Some days, my skin would look horrible but internally I felt okay. - Some days, I felt like absolute shit, but my skin looked okay. - I then realized, because I couldn’t predict the day to day over the course of the next few months, I had to create some sort of certainty to get through this next uphill battle. - What did I do? - Both my feet were the most problematic areas. It was swollen, infected and oozing. Even on the soles of my feet. Walking was uncomfortable and I was pretty much limping for a year. - No matter how my feet was progressing, everyday I soaked my feet in apple cider vinegar and warm water. - I then applied some zinc based creams. - Every day after work, I would sit by the bathtub soaking my feet for about 15-20 minutes.   • Has anyone heard about Avene Hydrotherapy center in France? - Came across this center while researching about eczema during TSW. - I personally haven't been treated here but you if you have, please share your experiences below! - A lot of people have gotten better after visiting Avene Hydrotherapy Center and they have been covered in the media if you do a quick google search. - I still believe diet is key in controlling eczema. As well as, not abusing steroid creams or not using them at all. - However, everyone may not be in a situation to go cold turkey on steroids, maybe diet hasn't been working or anything else you have tried. - Just wanted to present this another option so you or your child maybe be able to get it under control. - Again, always do your research and due diligence before jumping into a decision regarding eczema. Find people who have gone here through social media, talk with patients or parents of the patients, talk to a medical professional before deciding.   • Whether it's calling in sick, staying in on a Friday night or just staying home all weekend...just take a break. - When dealing with topical steroid withdrawal or severe eczema (and even other health issues), it can be extremely exhausting, physically and mentally. - Just waking up with dry, flaky, red, inflamed, irritated skin every morning immediately puts hundreds of thoughts into my mind. - What can I do today to look "normal"? What can I do to look presentable to society to reduce the amount of stares and questions I may get asked in public? - Most of the times, we itch and scratch, apply everything and anything to look normal on the outside to get on with our day to day. It's hell of a lot easier to stay and hide home, but that ain't feasible. - I took a short-term sick leave from work until I was able to manage the day to day. Even after joining work on a part time basis, it wasn't easy. My skin was still red, oozing here and there but I felt okay enough to go back. It gave me the peace of mind to actually deal with TSW. - Instead of waking up to an alarm after barely any sleep, I didn't need to stress about work or worry about what I needed to do to look presentable. I wasn't at the stage where I couldn't give zero F's about what people thought of me or how they viewed me. I always wondered what people thought when they looked at my TSW skin. - Just waking up was a mission itself, my skin hurt, my muscles hurt, moving hurt. As soon as I started moving, the itching would start and the constant uncomfortableness started all over again. - Instead of worrying about all those things, I was able to focus on myself and health. Giving it the mental and physical rest it needed. - I was fortunate enough to take time off from work.   • I'm at a crossroad to present this topic because it uses steroids... - But this may be for eczema sufferers who want to break out of the cycle of using steroids and transition into a life without steroids while keeping the symptoms controlled. - I still think it's important for people to know about the different options out there. - I personally haven't used this treatment because I found out about this too late and was already months into TSW. It didn't make sense for me to re-apply steroids no matter how diluted the solution was. - Just remember to not rush into the next best treatment/product/fad you hear about eczema. Take the time to research it thoroughly and give it a fair shot. This is extremely hard because we want an instant solution because TSW/Eczema is a nightmare to deal with on a daily basis. - I'm still against using steroids though after going through withdrawal symptoms and still healing from it. But everyone may not be in a position to go cold turkey and be ready to deal with the symptoms of TSW. - Have you heard about Dr. Aron or used his treatment?
