Clearly, I live under a rock because I only came across this “you got eczema” vine/tiktok/meme!
If you don’t know what I’m talking about it, check it out here:
Now that we can laugh about ourselves, when you got eczema, it’s not always fun and games.
There is a lot of shit we go through.
There is a lot of shit we try just for a moment of relief.
Having eczema all your life can cause you to have resentment towards life.
This was my initial mentality, without realizing it.
Then came topical steroid withdrawal.
The Initial Mentality
Man, was I bitter and resentful the first little while of going through TSW.
I was already dealing with a wide range of emotions, from being furious at my doctor (more on this later) to being depressed about missing out on life.
I had to pause whatever goals I’d set for myself and deal with something so uncertain, for what seemed like forever.
Social media didn’t help at all.
All I saw were other people’s highlight reels while I was stuck at home oozing, itching, and sleep-deprived.
But I knew this mindset would lead me down a terrible rabbit hole.
Motivational and inspirational content is what got me through the tough days and was by my side throughout the entire journey.
As painful as it was, I had to reframe my perspective on my current situation.
This thought only came after a few long months of feeling stuck, lost, and hopeless.
BRB Mindset
Speaking to myself from a third person, I told myself, I’ll be right back while I heal myself.
Why? Because TSW is temporary. Pain is temporary.
I knew this wouldn’t be my forever situation. You know it too.
Despite healing not having a concrete and definitive timeline, we all know we will end up healing.
It’s just a matter of time.
So even though you feel like you had to put your entire world on pause, while you watch the rest of the world continue, remember, you’ll be right back.
I love watching sports and I like to apply a lot of the principles and strategies from it to my own life.
One situation I used to help reframe my TSW journey was drawing similarities to when a player got injured in an unfortunate event.
Some players would be out for a few days, weeks, and months.
Some players would even have season-ending injuries. But eventually, they would be right back for the next season.
That’s how I felt too but I forgot about the part when they return in my own healing journey.
I couldn’t see the end in sight most days. I forgot that I’d eventually be right back.
So you may feel like you just got hit with a season-ending injury or you feel some sort of bitterness and resentment that you have to sit idly by waiting to heal.
But just remind yourself and anyone who asks, I’ll be right back.
BRB.
Just because you got eczema, doesn’t mean eczema’s got you!
You Got Eczema? Yes. But not for long!
Just because you got eczema, doesn’t mean it’s your forever situation.
There is always something you can do. Despite what your doctor says…
They may say nutrition doesn’t play a factor.
But they could be far from the truth.
We know eating McDonald’s every day ain’t healthy. Except for that Big Mac guy in the documentary Super Size Me.
So it’s time you took a look at what you eat every day.
If your eczema or just your skin health, in general, is not where you want it to be, you first need to address nutrition.
For most people, it’s hard to address what they eat. It’s an entire lifestyle shift.
But once you make that shift and see the healing benefits, you won’t turn back.
Your skin will start to heal from the inside out and you’ll even have more energy.
I’ve tried a lot of treatments and diets in the past, but the one thing that made the biggest difference is focusing on nutrition to heal from the inside out.
